New Gods
The following works are the “New Gods” series. In the Ancient world, humans developed myths and epics to describe the world around them. They created these myths to explain the world around them. In the context of scientific knowledge, this desire for a story to explain meaning fell into a different context. In the contemporary age, these narratives have taken shape into our pop culture, film, and music. These concepts in the modern age have become “The New Gods”. As a result, these works combine various cultural myths and narratives, attempting to put them into a cohesive context.
Formally, the works borrow from multiple parts of Art history. The use of expression from euro peon and African art movements, Baroque style foreshortening, Hieronymus Bosch’s use of figures, and abstract expressionist colored marks. With these sources the works use gestural and figurative lines, with abrasive paint splatter to get across these stories.
